Enforcing the Rules
Enforcing the Rules

My Beta site
Starting from October 1, 2007, we will be strictly enforcing the rule that hosting members have to actively participate in our forum. Please use our forum to:
1. Post ASP.NET, web hosting, search engine related articles
2. Ask technical doubts during your day to day programming.
3. Discuss various technology related issues.
4. Help others by answering questions.
5. Post programming tips
6. Post solution to various programming challenges.
We like to grow this forum as a busy technology forum so that we get sufficient fund to run the show. As of now, the total revenue from AspSpider and all the hosted sites together (including the new Ads system) are less than what we spend for hosting our servers in a world class data center.
We expect your support to coninue our free service.

It would have been nice to have a little warning. Simply shutting down access is not very conducive to keeping people happy

Mike Olness,
We posted the above warning from 10/1/2007, but actually started enforcing only Jan 14, 2008. More than 100 days of notice - don't you think it is sufficient ?

Educational
I dont intirely disagree, but I signed up for an account, was stuck on info server for educational use.
Do you think I should start giving answers to people or do you think I should be the one asking the questions?
The agreement I was informed of was a mandatory link to asp spider, and optional Ad rotators, which I have on every single page.
I can give BS answers to questions, and everyone will find that the forums have litterally gone to hell.
Or I can give you 10 links to other peoples web sites that have asp.net resources, and are directly in competition with aspspider.
What would you suggest for someone who has opened a free educational hosting account for the purpose of answering his own questions with code, but can't upload that code becuase he hasn't got the answer the code might have yielded? I am open to any that may arise.

Demonstrations and Evaluations
I have just opened an account, does this mean I have to do 10 postings before I can use it ?
If this is an educational service, what level of knowledge do the users here have to be able to answer questions ?
Or, do we just get a bunch of people typing in any old drivel just to bump up there forum quota.

But I think that 10 postings in the forums is too much for enjoy free hosting. This hosting is for deployment in proves that the development is right.

I have a suggestion. Rather than not allowing the users to use the File Manager, why dont you restrict creation of new files/folders ?

Little bit confusion with posting resources and discussion in the forum. Is that total 10 posting together or just 5 posting like (2 resources and 3 discussions in the forum?). Can you please clear me.

I do not understand about the recourses.
Should I write some content myself or just post links to content?
And what I should post if I have not questions and other questions answered yet?
Thank you!

The bottom line is money. ASpspider gets paid to run ads, the more visitors to the site, the more advertisers are willing to pay.
Submit things you know to work. Help make the site a "better" place to visit. And The advertisers will keep your account up and running.
Ask questions if you have them, answer questions if you can. And BY all means if you know of "Good Programming" tips post them here.
Now ask your self, as an advertiser, if all the resources here pointed to some other web site, where people spent there time reading relavant content, who would you rather pay to run ads? The site with links, or the site where people are going to get info?
If you want to garantee that you will have free access in the future, you will post the resource in its intirety here. Eliminate useless information and anything else you wouldn't want to bring into your own home.
And By all means Help us ALL sell this site to prospective Advertisers.
Thanks,
Dan

Arrepentido.
Gracias,
Dan

So, does this response add to my count of 10 responses? I have genuinely tried to be a positive participant of these forums. However, being forced to post an answer in the forum just to keep the count running does not seem to be a very productive approach.

We have reduced the minimum requirements to total 5 posts per month (Answers in this forum or Resources). Questions in the forum will not be counted.
As of now, we are not validating the quality of the posts. However, someday, editors are going to review them.
We do not give any guarantee on how long the new registration will be open. When we need to remove some users to free up some resources, those spammers in the forum/resources section will go out first.
As of now, we earn around 50% of our total cost from the Ads. Remaining 50% is funded from our partner websites.
We are trying to increase the traffic in AspSpider by enouraging people to post more resources and requesting you all to participate in the forum more actively. This will help us earn the minum amount to keep our services running. We are not looking for making any profit from this service.
So, please help us by posting quality content, not copied from other sites. Also, help other members by answering their questions.
We like to continue this free hosting service.... but it is at your mercy now!
