"We received hundreds of messages requesting to continue our free hosting service. We are sorry to say that the revenue we generate from this free service was not sufficient to run this.
However, we like to consider a request received from some of our members - offer free hosting for limited period.
We are currently working on this plan. The plan is to allow members to host temporary websites for the following purposes:
1. Learn & practice Asp.NET
2. Host Asp.NET demo projects
3. Try ASP.NET hosting before you purchase a hosting plan wiht a paid service
etc...
Highlights:
- Each member will be allowed to host a site for a maximum of 90 days.
- After 90 days, the site will be closed and all files will be deleted.
- Member may create a new site again, but NOT under the same domain name. For example, if you have a site under AspSpider.Biz, after 90 days, you may create another site under AspSpider.Info domain.
- As we used to do before, we do not backup your files. If the server is dead, your files are gone.
Please post your comments about this plan and let us know if it makes sense to continue this."
Hi Tony,
I'm sad with what has happened with AspSpider but I can understand.
Regarding the future plan, I strongly agree, I'm considering to moving to real web hosting company but I do actually love things here such as easy file uploads, good forum etc. However, I have another option, will it be okay if u also provide paid service for this? I don't mind to pay for hosting my web on AspSpider. Even I never have serious problem during the time my site was online with you.
Thanks.
Stevanus.

Stevanus,
Thank you for your feedback.
We do not want to get in to paid hosting yet. It involves lot of additional infrastructure and responsibilities including automated back up process, backup servers, disaster recovery mechanism, support staff etc.

Hi admin,
Your plans seem interesting. But I didn't get this:
"Member may create a new site again, but NOT under the same domain name"
Do you mean a member can enjoy free hosting "forever" if he changes his site's domain name every 3 months?
Thanks.

Hi Tony,
I'm just wondering this: how come having members switching domain name every 3 months is of any benefit for aspspider.net?

This is what we are looking for:
1. By asking members to switch domain name every 3 months, we are expecting that members will create only sites for learning purpose and not host established sites for long term. Also, this will force members to spend some in AspSpider every few months and help us increase our traffic and revenue.
2. When a member site url is changed after 90 days, there will be some search engine traffic coming to the old urls. Those will be redirected to our pages which are rich of Ads. That will help us get some revenue.

Thanks Tony for your reply. That sounds really cool for everybody: aspspider.net and its active members!
I got another question :)
Is there a way to switch from a domain name to another (under the same aspspder.net account), prior to 90 days? That would allowed me to minimize the time the website is down, and tell my members what day its new address is effective.
Thanks a lot! I'm glad aspspider.net is back :):):)
Good job!

Rod Tidwell,
That is something that we never thought about, but it makes sense to go that way. We will try to implement a feature where you can delete the website yourself and create under another domain at your choice.

Thanks a lot Tony!
Unfortunately, the activity in here seems to decrease day after day.
Do you have any idea about how many active members there are in here, among the 79786 who registered? I'm sure I'm among the 50 most active :)
