ADO .NET: A misnomer

Summary
This resource talks about why ADO .NET is actually a misnomer.
.NET Classes used :
System.Data
ADO .NET, acclaimed as the revolutionary Microsoft data access technology, that upgraded ADO to a new level is actually an incorrect claim. I am not debating its revolutionary nature here.
First, ADO .NET is a complete replacement for ADO. It is not, on the other hand, an upgraded version of ADO. This is because ADO .NET is based on an entirely new set of architecture. Yet, for the sake of keeping with its names, Microsoft named it ADO .NET. A developer moving from ADO to ADO .NET would find that the ADO means of data access such as the recordset object are no longer found in ADO .NET.
Second, ADO .NET is not here to replace ADO completely. ADO has its place in traditional server environments such as ASP.
In a nutshell, we must remember that .NET is a new framework; yet Microsoft has not made any significant attempts to deprecate previous technologies related to web development. It is correct that focus is given to .NET and, such focus would eventually lead to a defacto decline of any other technologies, yet Microsoft has not made any attemtpts to do so. It wants to keep its other technologies alive and working until time wears them out.
