Visual Web Developer doesn't support PUBLISHING/COMPILATION? Don't worry!!!

Summary
You can use a simple command line compilation code to compile all your projects in Visual Web Developer (the FREE version of Visual Studio for students which doesn’t support PUBLISHING/COMPILATION by default).

.NET Classes used :

Microsoft Visual Web Developer doesn’t support PUBLISHING by default. this means you can create any website you like, but you can't COMPILE them & convert them to the BIN version to be hosted on any server.

In order to remedy this problem, you just need to use the aspnet_compiler.exe file in your FRAMEWORK directory. You can either go to the Command prompt (type CMD in Start Menu > Run) & type the CODE below or if you use it so frequently, you can save it as a BATCH file, just like I did:

1. Create a folder & two subfolders in it, e.g.:

C:\Compilation
C:\Compilation\Source Code
C:\Compilation\Compiled Code

2. After you BUILD your website successfully in Visual Web Developer, copy all the contents of the website's folder (from Windows Explorer) into the "C:\Compilation\Source Code\" folder.

3. Open note pad, copy the CODE below:


C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe -v /WebApplication1 -p "C:\Compilation\Source Code" "C:\Compilation\Compiled Code"

***Note: The folder names can be different. If your Windows is not installed in C:\Windows and/or your .NET FRAMEWORK is anywhere else, you just need to locate the "aspnet_compiler.exe" file using Start Menu > Search.

4. Save this file in NOTEPAD, as ASP_COMPILE.BAT (change SAVE AS TYPE to ALL FILES) in C:\Compilation.

5. Go to C:\Compilation, run ASP_COMPILE.BAT .Now, after a few seconds, the compiled version of your code will be in C:\Compilation\Compiled Code directory.

6. Next time you want to compile any code, simply delete the contents of C:\Compilation\Source Code and C:\Compilation\Compiled Code. Then, copy the new website's files into the C:\Compilation\Source Code subfolder & then run ASP_COMPILE.BAT from C:\Compilation.
