Well, its a easier way.If your DNS provider (ie. ISP) have "wildcard" option you could set *.mydomain.com -> myIPIn that case: user.mydomain.com -> myIP anything.mydomain.com ...

Also, remember that you wont be able to do that if you don't have the administrator privileges. So, you will end up with dedicated server for that.
